Womanhood in the cis-sense, is often framed as a clean break, as if girlhood is something we are meant to outgrow or leave behind. But it never really works like that. The girl stays— in instinct, in contradiction, in fantasy, in the private rituals we carry with us long after we are supposed to have become something more composed. The woman and the girl are not separate identities, they are versions of each other, existing together in reality and memory. That coexistence is surreal. Childhood lingers inside adulthood, and domestic spaces become places where these tensions may unfold. The adult woman is never fully detached from the worlds she once imagined, instead, she is, in many ways, still built from them.
