Meet Camporeale
Camporeale is a Parisian music composer, DJ and sound engineer. Self-taught since his teenage years, the artist is now multi-faceted. His electronic compositions build up his universe, and his drums always find echo into deep and spacious basslines, the nucleus of his creations.
In the studio, Camporeale puts himself at the service of both artists (like Mikano, Danitsa, Ashh, Vlospa…) and brands (Marine Serre, Daily Paper, …), to help them reach their full sonic potential.
These multiple experiences have allowed him to develop his technical knowledge and an unparalleled sense of detail, serving a unique sound aesthetic. Building on these experiences, it was only logical that Camporeale should launch his own studio in Paris - Studio COVO, his own video series - “In the Zone”, and his own series of events - Hooligang activities.
But let’s rewind a little bit and let’s dive into the sound waves of Camporeale.
How would you describe your sound?
My sound is a fusion of hip hop and electronic music, characterized by deep basslines, strong beats, and warm, colorful melodies. I love creating contrasts and surprising moments in my beats—elements that might catch listeners off guard but ultimately provide a pleasing experience. My approach involves blending these elements to craft unique and engaging tracks that keep the audience intrigued and entertained.
What sounds or other artists do you take inspiration from?
One of my favorite songs of all time is "Can't Say” by Travis Scott. When I started music production, I was heavily inspired by artists like Night Lovell, Drip-133, Travis Scott, Sevdaliza, WondaGurl, Kanye West, and Future. Today, as a producer and DJ, I mix those inspiration with new ones from the UK scene and artists like Bullettooth, Bakey, and Sammy Virji.
What is your background? How did your childhood influence your passions? Did you always want to be a musician?
When I was a teenager, I was deep into the vibrant world of trap songs on SoundCloud. I found myself captivated by the groundbreaking sounds of producers like Murda Beatz, UV boi, Travis Scott, and WondaGurl. But it was an interview I watched with Internet Money that truly ignited my passion for music production, pushing me to dive in and learn the craft on my own.
Releasing my own tracks opened doors to a network of incredibly talented artists. Despite not initially knowing how to play an instrument, my drive to elevate my sound led me to master music theory and piano. Bit by bit, I enhanced my workflow, borrowing the best elements from top-tier producers and artists.
In 2020, I took a bold step and co-founded NEUF, a creative studio, with a group of friends who shared my vision. This venture became a hotbed for collaboration, allowing me to connect with and produce for a lot of artists.
Last year, I established my studio in Paris, and decided to focus on creating projects both for others and for myself. This helped me to grow my sound and music process really fast.
MERDE issue 8's theme is AURAL - What does this word mean to you?
As a music producer who loves trap, grime, and club music, I'm deeply inspired by the aural landscapes these genres create. The intricate layers of sound, from the heavy basslines to the sharp hi-hats, and the rhythmic complexities all contribute to a rich aural experience that drives my creativity.
How do you play with all 5 senses when you're composing?
As a DJ and music producer, I immerse myself fully into the creative process, engaging all five senses. Visually, I draw inspiration from the energy and movement I see in live performances and the vibrant atmosphere of clubs. This visual stimulation influences both my DJ sets and my production.
In the studio, I'm deeply tuned into my vision, which means I'm intensely focused. The tactile experience of working with my equipment, feeling the beats through my fingertips, and the physicality of moving to the music all contribute to the final product. The scent of the studio and the taste of my favorite drinks keep me grounded and energized throughout the process.
Overall, it's this multi-sensory engagement that allows me to create music that resonates on multiple levels.
How do you approach collaborating with another artist?
As a music producer currently working with multiple artists with different genres, my approach to collaboration leans on understanding the artist's vision and background before diving into the musical process. I believe that for a project to be successful, there must be a strong human connection. If we share similar musical references, we're already halfway there.
What is your relationship like with our cover star Mikano?
I've wanted to work with Mikano since the early days of my music career. His music resonated with me deeply, and I felt we shared similar musical references even though we hadn't met. I was captivated by his unique vision and sensed that he had something special. One evening, I reached out to him on Instagram to propose a studio session. We immediately connected both spiritually and musically. Since that experience, we've grown close, like brothers. This connection has led to many incredible moments together, whether on stage or in the studio.
Maybe I shouldn’t say but we have a few singles in stock … and when they drop … it’s going to hit hard !
What are your goals for the near future?
In the near future, my goals are multifaceted.
Last year, I opened my own studio : Studio Covo, with Basile Peter. So I aim to enhance the studio's reputation and continue developing both independent artists and those signed to labels. At the moment, we’re working with French artist Ashh and Greek rapper Vlospa for example, but we’re also putting the final touches to Swiss talent Danitsa's upcoming album which we have fully directed, composed and mixed. We are very proud of this one. Step by step I feel we are going global and it’s very rewarding.
I also want to further develop my project “In The Zone”, an annual compilation of tracks where I invite artists to collaborate with me and perform original tracks in my studio. The roster for next season is very promising and I can’t wait to work on it.
As a DJ, I also plan to expand my international presence and introduce my original tracks and remixes to a broader audience. I’m feeding my Soundcloud with exclusive edits at the moment so stay tuned. And additionally, I launched “Hooligang Activities” last year, a series of events focused on House, Garage, and Jungle music. I am committed to continuing to share and promote this culture with as many people as possible in France, from behind the decks. It’s all very exciting.
