We have spent the past few months creating a passion project where we aimed to merge culture, fashion,

and photography. This project, named ‘Identity Gleam,’ highlights the unique beauty and cultural importance

of grillz.

This project consists of a series of portraits of various influential individuals. For us, they are more than just

portraits; they are a celebration of identity, style, and personal history.

Grillz, the sparkling jewelry for teeth, are more than a fashion accessory. They carry a rich history dating

back to the ancient Mayans, who decorated their teeth with jade and gold as a sign of wealth and status. In

contemporary culture, grillz have evolved into symbols of pride, rebellion, and creative self-expression. Our

series captures this evolution, with each portrait telling a personal story of cultural diversity and individual

flair.

The making of grillz is an art in itself. Each set is handcrafted by artisans who work meticulously to ensure

each grill fits and shines perfectly. For many, grillz are not just decorations, but an expression of their true

selves. For these individuals, wearing custom-made grillz is a means of showcasing something uniquely craf-

ted for them, allowing them to stand out and make a statement without saying a word.

This series is a tribute to the art of grillz and to those who proudly wear them. Grillz embody a blend of

culture, fashion, and personal expression. Through the lens of Identity Gleam, captured by two friends who

share a passion for photography and culture, this ideology comes to life.
